Ice Memory Foundation is proud to join forces with UNESCO and IUCN highlighting the World Heritage Glaciers: Sentinels of Climate Change in a new report and video.  Supported by UNESCO since 2017, we collectively underline that urgent action is needed to safeguard this unique heritage for future generations.  As we are heading to #COP27, we invite all world leaders to put on the table more ambitious climate pledges & long-term research and monitoring strategies for 2050 as pointed out by all #IPCC reports since the last decades.  Limiting global warming to 1.5°C could save glaciers in 2/3 of World Heritage sites and provide a crucial set of informations and data for future of the planet. In a business-as-usual high-emission scenario, Mount #Kilimanjaro, Mount #Kenya and the Rwenzori-Virunga as well as other iconic sites in Europe and North America such as the Dolomites Italy, Pyrénées-Mont Perdu France/Spain, Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park USA will have disappeared in 2050.  Glaciers in at least 10 other sites (mainly sites with a glacierized area ranging from 10 to 100 km²) could almost completely disappear by 2100. It is a race against time for humanity to preserve climate and environmental #IceMemory.
