The French Polar Institute
The French Polar Institute Paul-Emile Victor (IPEV) is a public interest group (GIP) whose members are the major player organizations in French polar scientific research. The French Polar Institute provides the human, logistical, technical and financial resources as well as the legal framework necessary for the development of French scientific research in the polar and sub-polar regions. The isolation and extreme climates of these regions require operators to have special technical skills and know-how. With professionals in polar logistics, the Institute uses its knowledge of extreme environments and its specific skills to coordinate, support and implement between sixty and eighty scientific and technological projects each year in high latitude regions, both in the North and South..
The Italian National Antarctic Research Programme
Since 2010, a new management of the Italian National Antarctic Research Programme (PNRA) has positioned ENEA - the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development - as the official body responsible for implementing the Antarctic Expeditionary Plan and organising all relevant technical and logistical actions on site. In addition, the Agency conducts scientific research on the environment, climate change and technological innovation in polar areas.
In its role as the implementing body of the PNRA, the ENEA organizes and coordinates all operational, technical and logistical actions aimed at implementing the Annual Executive Programme (EAP) in Antarctica. All activities take place at Mario Zucchelli station, located in Terra Nova Bay, at the joint Italian-French Concordia station located in Dome C, on the Antarctic Plateau, as well as in foreign facilities and/or vessels and in the Ross Sea, during oceanographic campaigns.
