Ice Memory at IPICS 2026

Building the future of ice core science together
IPICS 2026, Ice Memory, ice core science, banff
From 11 to 16 October 2026, the international ice core community gathers in Banff, Canada, for IPICS. For the Ice Memory Foundation, this event is an opportunity to strengthen international collaboration and invite new partners to help preserve the world's precious ice archives for future generations.
For ten years, Ice Memory has brought together scientists and institutions from around the world to safeguard the climate and environmental records preserved in mountain glaciers. As glaciers continue to retreat, this mission is becoming increasingly urgent.
Today, Ice Memory is taking on a new challenge: expanding its universal collection of heritage ice cores through international collaboration.

A call to the international ice core community

At IPICS 2026, the Ice Memory Foundation is inviting researchers and institutions worldwide to become part of this collective effort.

Are you planning a drilling expedition on a glacier of scientific and historical significance?
Could you collect an additional ice core for long-term preservation?
Or do you already have an untouched ice core that could become part of the Ice Memory collection?
Ice Memory is ready to support these contributions, from drilling and logistics to long-term storage and heritage preservation.

The ambition is to build a lasting scientific legacy, making these irreplaceable archives available to future generations of researchers.
Let's #GetTogether!

To discuss opportunities for collaboration, Ice Memory is organizing a dedicated workshop during IPICS:
Tuesday, October 13, 2026 — 5 PM
Banff Centre, Room KC 201
This gathering is an invitation to connect, exchange ideas and explore how the international scientific community can work together to safeguard the memory of our glaciers.
The next chapter of Ice Memory will be written together.
